This is a Benedictine ideal and spiritual practice that lies at the heart of our upcoming Renewal Assembly. On February 22, parishes across the diocese will generously host this assembly. Traditionally these February Assemblies are designed with vestries in mind, but they are by no means exclusive to them. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend! The Alban Institute and Alice Mann have spent years studying current conditions in parishes and offering resources to them. Can Our Church Live? is an inspiring book that seeks to give parishes tools for deeper spirituality and mission. Every parish, no matter its size or history, is located within a distinct life cycle. First, we must learn the nature of this cycle; second, our own parish’s place within the cycle; and third, how to effectively respond to the stage we are in. Through this process we gain valuable insight into our parishes. This is a tool that equally benefits each and every one of us. Every church must continually “begin again” as God calls us to new mission and new ministry. The assembly is also designed with a compelling scriptural component, along with the opportunity for people to share their stories and hear the stories of their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ from throughout the diocese. Each of us has a story to tell about how we live out our faith and how we reach out to the communities around us in mission. Together we can amass a wealth of knowledge by sharing our unique experiences. Each parish that is represented at the assembly will receive a copy ofCan Our Church Live?, as well as other materials. Please join us for this very important and valuable encounter. Each vestry group and individual participant attending is sure to benefit, but more importantly, will be strengthened by the experience of all through the shared presence of each. By the Rev. Andrew Reinholz at [buff.ly/1baCi7t], originally in the Diolight for January 29th.
