The elections this week have focused attention on America and its government and the direction of the nation. Pundits are saying that the shift in control of the Senate is due more to dissatisfaction with that state of America than it is to being enamored with the positions of the winning party. When I speak with Americans, disaffection and concern about the future of the country are frequent topics of conversation. But I spend much of my time in Asia, and the Asians I know still look up to America. They admire what we have accomplished economically over the years and look to the United States as a military counterweight to aggressive behavior on the part of their neighbors. From where I sit in Asia, America remains, as Abraham Lincoln said over 150 years ago, the last best hope of earth. So whatever your political persuasion and however you feel about Tuesdays election results, America indeed is a nation worth saving and strengthening. Each one of us has a Divine mission, and Americans collectively have a Divine mission. The nation needs to fulfill its mission. Let us, this Saturday, pray for just that. Here is a suggestion: The Creator in the United States of America fills the nation with Light and Love. The Creator in the United States of America fulfills the nations Divine mission. The Creator in the United States of America fills all of its citizens with Light so that they may know and help fulfill the nations Divine mission. The Creator in the United States of America fills all elected officials with Light and Love. The Creator in the United States of America fills all appointed government officials with Light and Love. The Creator in the United States of America fills all of its business leaders with Light and Love. The government of America rests on the shoulders of the Christ.
