The enactment of the Commission is a compromise and the Government has already agreed. Not a matter of debate now. A powerful Commission can discover irregularities through help of other Government agencies recall earlier commissions from the much earlier Hameedur Rahman in ZAB time to memo Commission and Abottabad Commission last few years. This is a formula to end the crisis. All want the crisis to end even the PTI now. The army has given a clear ultimatum to sort out the “problem”. More importantly the SC wants to end the crisis also and has given a verdict to get the job done to open up the Constitution Ave to normal times somehow while not ruling on the legality of the marches themselves. Clever SC decision. Historically, these Commissions were merely eyewashes and had no impact at all. Obviously, that is the biggest concern. Ik will have to bring continued pressure to make this Commission different. Let us hope for the best.
