The end of an era: The Meepy Era (7/1996 - 1/2015). Meepy was one of those cats, you know, that have all that attitude, walk around with their tails up and dare anyone to get within claws reach. Anyone. Dogs included. Apparently, I had told someone in our rural humane society that I would take a Siamese, so they called me up and pitched this kitten as a flame-point Siamese. I didnt really care. I was ready for a kitten though, so he came home with me. When I first brought him home, covered with fleas and dirt, about 8 weeks old and weighing in at oh, maybe a pound, he marched right in and took over. My mini poodle, Hobie, had easily a matching amount of attitude and about 12 times his weight, but they chased each other back and forth around the house, giving and taking plenty of punishment on both sides (no blood shed but my own - silly me, not having fur all over my body, eh?) He played in the catbox, jumped on the counters, only cussing me out when I tried to deter the counter-surfing with a spray bottle while continuing whatever he was doing when interrupted. Eventually, his coloring started to show, and lo and behold, he looked pretty much like a flame-point Siamese. Sure had the voice, anyway! Meepy cultivated that attitude through 6 dogs and 2 more cats, through adding a man to the family and with visitors big and small. He loved the man. He and Humphrey Blackburn became absolutely the best buddies, playing lots of stupid games together (like whos that cat?, spin the cat and submarine). Humphrey even taught Meepy a trick (roll over). Meepy spent his last night sleeping under the covers by Humphreys side. He had been waning away with kidney disease the last couple years. When it was clear he was never going to feel any better than that moment, and sure to feel only worse, we made the call. He now rests with the 4 greyhounds and 2 cats he lorded it over in life. Hed probably be really pissed about that. Meepy, well miss you, even with it all.
