The enormity of it all What we need to let go of is self and self determination. Self and self determination are the very things we see as being helpful, but they are actually harmful. Why is that? Because our human nature is incapable of inheriting the kingdom of God. The use of self effort to live a Godly life will only create an internal struggle because the very life that we are trying to obtain does not come about by trying. Our own self effort is what is defeating us. The very thing that we are accessing to live a life for God is compounding a contrast against Him. When we depend on self we create a problem with selfish tendencies and its accompanying character defects and shortcomings. Self can not change the problem of self. Our own human strength means nothing regarding the true spiritual things of God. Self and self determination is much entwined with what the Bible calls “flesh”. Our flesh can not ascend beyond our flesh. When we accept Christ into our living we also need to accept His domination over the flesh for us.. It is in the realm of the gift of Christ and His perfect act FOR US AND AS US at the cross that we are established in a spiritual life. If we really want to get to work, or to battle, the first step is to hear the words of God regarding the finished work of Christ. There is work to be done but not the type of work that we commonly think of. God is doing a work in us to accept the gift of perfection IN CHRIST! It’s the move of the Spirit that we desire in our lives. God Himself placed this desire within us. But when we truly believe in the power of Christ crucified we don’t follow it with the thinking that we now have to do something. It is followed by a complete trust in Him. We are born of the Spirit through the crucifixion of the flesh. We do not crucify our own flesh. Our flesh is crucified in Christ. Christ took us upon Himself. All the points of our self have been addressed. All the circumstances that the self faces have been faced by Christ Himself and at His cross. We can not even understand the enormity of it all. It is only through the finished work of Christ that we can truly Let go and let God
