The enterprising city of New Britain, the subject of this sketch, with a population of 20,000, is pleasantly located in Hartford County and nearly in the center of the state of Connecticut. Though territorially one of the smallest towns in the state, it is unsurpassed by any in the magnitude and excellence of its manufactures. It is 9 miles from Hartford, 28 from New Haven, 105 from New York and 120 from Boston. its railroad facilities are ample. It is on the main line of the New York & New England Road, and connected with the Consolidated road by a branch road abut three miles in length.
