The erection of a Mausoleum, tombs, shrines, graves is permissible in QURAN.. who destroy shrine and show hatred towards friends of Allah are directly opposing the Quran The Islam haters would be happy putting one leg on the other while sitting and saying: Ahh! we created a sect inside Muslims with the help of British n America to do the job which we had failed to do since ages (i.e. creating chaos/anarchy in Muslim world by getting destroyed the holy Islamic heritage from the hands of so called Muslims themselves). If not stopped then final goal of Satan (Iblees) is to destroy Kaba (which also contains Maqam of Ibrahim i.e. shrine built over his foot print which is proven holy through Nass of Quran) and also destroy other Shair Allah (signs to be venerated) including tomb of Hazart Muhammad (Peace be upon him) as is propagated in many wahabi literature which calls it the biggest idol (Naudhobillah) Some people in this present era erroneously believe that If somebody visits the graves of Pious people (including Hazrat Muhamma (pbuh) and take them as a means to Allah or seek blessing through their relics, then this act is either Shirk or Biddah. Some even claim that this act wasnt done by Sahaba or in past centuries, nor is building structures over graves prescribed in Shariah including the grave of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh ) being built over and the green dome constructed over it is all bidah (propagated by the Chief innovator of Salafi sect called Nasir ud-din Albani). Let us now understand the ruling once and for all in the light of Quran and Hadith Some people say that it is Haraam to build a Mazaar (Shrine, Tomb, Mausoleum) of a Saint. They have always labelled those who construct or visit the Mazaaars as Mushriks (Idol Worshippers) and non-believers. They label those who erect Mausoleums for the Saints as.Qabar Pujaris or Grave-worshippers and call them misled. It must first be understood that there are two types of Muslims:- 1. Ordinary Muslims (Muslims Layman): The erection of a Mausoleum for an ordinary Muslim is forbidden since it is of no benefit. 2 Special Muslims (Saint, Pious, Martyrs and Ulema): The erection of a Mausoleum for special individuals, i.e. pious men, Saints, Martyrs and the Ulema (learned Scholars of Islam) is permissible. The reason for building a Mazaar is to make the status of the Saint apparent or distinct to mankind, for respect towards such great people is actually respect for Islam. It is built also for the convenience of the people and the followers of the Saint. Allah Ta’ala says in the Holy Quran: Some said construct a building over them. Their Lord knows best about them. Those who prevailed over their affairs said Let us surely build a place of worship over them. ((((Surah Kahf: 18)))) Anyone who builds a mosque near the grave of an upright person or prays in the tomb (Maqbara) or intends to ask for help through the Ruh of that upright person or intends to seek barakah from his left overs, If he does all that without the intention of giving him Tazeem or doing tawajuh towards him ( in prayer) “Then there is nothing wrong in that, dont you see that Grave of Hadrat Ismail(A.S) is inside the Masjid ul Harram near the hateem and to Pray there is Superior than anything else ” however to pray near the graves is only forbidden when the soil becomes dirty because of Najasat of deceased… In the Hateem near Hajr al Aswad and Mizaab there are “Graves of 70 Prophets” [Mirqat, Sharh al Mishqaat, Volume No. 2, Page No. 202] In accordance with the commentators of this verse of the Quran, Imam Bayzawi suni scholar says: From this it is understood that to erect a Mausoleum for the special people, i.e. Pious Saints and Ulema, is permissible. Hence those who destroy shrines and show hatre towards friends of Allah are directly opposing thcategorical verse of Quran whereas Quran explicitly prescribes to build over graves of Awliya and also to preserve their relics This is Nass of Quran which cannot ever be overruled not even by a hadith, so all the hadiths which the extremists misuse are to be interpreted i.e. graves of ORDINARY PEOPLE should not be built over (even they cannot be destroyed if once built) but graves of Prophets and Awliya could indeed be built over as we can see in Madina al-Munawwara the graves of Hazrat Muhammad(pbuh ) h. Abu Bakr and h. Umar are definitely built over with clear proof from Sahaba to build shrines over graves.
