The espnW /Aspen Institute #ProjectPlay survey released today - TopicsExpress

The espnW /Aspen Institute #ProjectPlay survey released today reveals a range of parents concerns about the state of youth sports. Covering everything from cost to concussion to coaching, the survey helps explain a near-10% decrease in organized team sports participation among 6-to-12-year-olds from 2008 to 2013. The quality of youth sports coaching takes a hard hit in the survey, writes ESPNs Tom Farrey, who also serves as Director of the Aspen Institutes Sports & Society Program: Mothers are overall more concerned about the state of youth sports than fathers, in most categories. The only area where fathers have more concern is about youth coaching, and its significant, with 85.2 percent registering some level of dissatisfaction. The good news is that the survey shows that parents continue to see youth sports as a valuable institution, with more than eight in 10 saying they still allow their child to join a team. At PCA, we hope to turn dissatisfaction into delight with #youthsports coaching. This survey is more fuel for our fire. espn.go/espnw/w-in-action/article/11675649/parents-concern-grows-kids-participation-sports
