The eve of another world war is a great time to start learning about our revolutionary past. This is a well-made introduction to Marxism, aside from at least two lacks. The first is obviously the fact that it was produced in the 1980s, prior to the fall of the Soviet Union, so it can give no analysis on those events or what has happened after. The other, and perhaps the more important, is the fact that it does not include any information about the Left Opposition, formed in 1923 to counter Stalinism. Many historians would like us to believe that there existed no alternative to Stalinism and that revolution will always result in the same repressive and tragic circumstances, but this is not how the world works. The alternative, which became the Fourth International under the leadership of Leon Trotsky, still exists today as the ICFI. Even though Stalin and his henchmen murdered more Marxists than all of the capitalists and fascists combined, seeking to snuff out the light of revolution, we have survived and still carry on this heritage. It is this heritage which puts us in the position to lead the proletariat to power today in the struggles that will undoubtedly unfold should all of the great powers once again go to war.
