The events at Elland Road from an independent football observer, - TopicsExpress

The events at Elland Road from an independent football observer, are beyond belief. Over the last 13 years Leeds United have gone from being at the zenith of European football to a soap opera. I know how passionate you and other fans or about the club. That is what makes it so appalling when the club lurches from one crisis to another as it has done, with a myriad of failed managers. If you look at other clubs that have fallen into the lower reaches of the football league such as Southampton and now Leicester, you can see the Gulf between the aspirations of the directors and the actual delivery on the ground when it comes to Leeds United. I come from the era when Leeds dominated football with Liverpool. To see the descent into a bedroom farce is unbelievable. If Brian Rix was still alive, than I expected him to run onto the stage with his trousers round his knees. The good thing is that it would appear Brian McDermott is likely to stay and the way in which you turned round the match yesterday against Huddersfield, could well be the turning point of the season. Whether the new monies bring you success I do not know. I do know though that it is time for the local media to move on from reminiscing about the 70s, which hangs like an albatross over the club. That team of the 70s was seared into independent football supporters like myself, whereas when Gary Speed passed away, it was difficult to know or even recall outside of Leeds who was within that championship winning team.
