The evolution of virulence in action... ? Interesting story this since it supports a hypothesis that is a major challenge to Darwinian thinking... chiefly the evolution of virulence. The evolution of virulence argues that over time host, parasite relationships become more amicable. That what starts out as deadly becomes benign. Thus the rule is not survival of the fittest but survival of the benevolent. I would argue that Ebola is following the same route.. However Ebola is a long way from being amicable and has only just evolved beyond being too virulent..(killing its victim before it has had sufficient time to spread to new hosts. This is no longer the case and its now at its most communicable stage..... bbc.co.uk/news/health-30254697
