The exotic pet trade is a multi-billion rand industry. Breeders - TopicsExpress

The exotic pet trade is a multi-billion rand industry. Breeders and dealers all over the world advertise and sell animals. Ever year, millions of wild-caught animals enter the exotic pet trade to satisfy peoples desire for a pet or to entertain tourists. Even though some exotic pets are bred in captivity many more are taken straight out of their natural habitats. In South Africa, much of the trade in exotic animals has to date been unregulated but new legislation may change that. The Gauteng Nature Conservation Bill has been written to protect our biodiversity, ensure proper care for exotic animals and control the trade of animals through permits. But where will this legislation leave pet shop owners and the exotic pets already in the province? Bertus travels around Gauteng to get opinions on the proposed legislation. https://youtube/watch?v=5BaCLOOTAiE
