The experience of being born as an artist is an undeniable fact of nature just like being Gay. The day to day perception of our life is completely dictated and prioritized by the way our brain works and the urge to express that. We are alone in the format of a modern persons life unless we individually and consciously seek out like minded people during a pain staking process. We are not born into artist communities. We cant celebrate that common culture the same joyous way. We are dispersed at whim, left to struggle for our own search of belonging. Sacrificing a normal life, marriage, money and friends while also putting on display every vulnerable corner of ourselves. Thats the honesty we live with. This is a common experience and this makes us a kind. Gays said they are not freaks. Black said they are not slaves. Artists must say we are not a group of hobbyists with a few exceptions who are paid to entertain. Only a few afforded a living after being deemed entertaining enough of clowns for societys liking. This is not a career, this is how we were born. People dont know any better until the oppressed group claims their respected way of life as the countless movements of Blacks, Gays and Women have historically shown us. Creative Class movement must become a social concern much beyond the art collectives in dirty run down lofts and in the same prosperity as any other self respecting group of human beings.
