The export of really-delicious mangoes from Guimaras Island happened a few years ago here in Southern CA. The mangoes arrived by air cargo on board PAL flights & retailed for approximately $25 per box (of about 20 pieces). The export did not last long, as Mexican Manila mangoes (grown from imported mango seeds from the PH, altho less delicious) were retailing at $9.95 or even lower for the same quantity. Surely the Guimaras mangoes were sweeter but very few Fil-Am customers wanted to spend about $15.05 MORE for the PH mangoes per box. Same thing will happen this time. IMHO the only way PH mangoes can be competitive is to export them to the U.S.A. as dried fruits. Competition will come only from Thailand, as Mexico does not export dried fruits (so far, to my limited knowledge). FYI.
