The extension of recent talks between Iran and 5+1 powers is interpreted very differently in different political circles and capitals. Paul Pillar, a fellow at the CSS at Georgetown University as well as at the Brookings Institution, makes accurate assessment of this extension. Summarily, he concludes: 1. The extension makes possible a continuation of major negotiating progress. 2. The need for an extension is not surprising. 3. Both sides are negotiating seriously. 4. Iran already has the biggest motivation to conclude the negotiations swiftly. 5. Diplomacy remains the surest way to preclude an Iranian nuclear weapon.
