The fact is that largely, as Africans, we did not have the hard borders of individual “nation states”, even in the Sudan, Egyptian and Carthaginian antiquity. These were imposed on the continent as a result of the infamous 1885 Berlin Conference, which carved up Africa into geographically defined territories owned by the various European colonial powers.
