The fact that pediatricians can prescribe ADHD meds without actually having that child thoroughly tested by a psychiatric professional for ADHD AND other things like dyslexia, etc is not only disturbing but sad to me. As a parent, wouldnt you rather know if there is a deeper issue your child is struggling with rather than just medicating him or her because they cant focus or is behind or fidgets or blurts out or is wild or acts out??? Medication without a REAL diagnosis (usually multiple appointments lasting more than an hour or two, teachers questionnaires, various testing, etc) is just a bandaid for the problem and an excuse that way too many parents have embraced as truth for their children. ADHD is real. Please know Im not arguing that!! However, the majority of patients who are on medication for it who actually have it: not so true. :-/
