The facts show we cannot even have an honest conversation about these issues. The violent protests surrounding the grand jury decision concerning the police shooting in Ferguson, Missouri is the latest example of the news media not doing its job of telling the whole truth. The result of that media misbehavior is exacerbating racial tension across the nation. Unfortunately, the pressure to boost broadcast ratings and sell more newspapers catches reporters and editors in a trap. Omission of certain facts, in favor of more juicy and racially charged riot narratives, is not malicious nor is it accidental, but it is convenient. The result is fanning the flames of violence and diverting attention from an honest discussion of the real and still festering racial tension between police and young black men.
