The failed humor of my yesterday’s post reaffirmed my beliefs: 1. Humor is the most difficult genre in writing, acting and drawing. 2. Vidia Naipaul’s advice, “the writer must make sure that the reader gets what he [writer] intends him to get” seems simple but is too exacting to follow; and, “the writer can’t get away by saying that the reader is slow witted. That makes for bad writing,” is true. My post was an example of ironic, self-deprecating, humor gone wrong: raised not a single laugh, but much sympathy. But I am not disappointed. As Akshay Kumar, the actor says, “ask any big actor from across the world,” and the answer is, “it’s very difficult to make people laugh,” and that is why “the comic role is extremely challenging.” So friends, please read my yesterday’s post and give me a laugh or two.
