The family - Good Morning! Our verse is found in Joshua 7:24: “And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor.” Don’t know about you but when I read portions of God’s Word such as this my first thought starts to dwell on the wife and children being punished for what the husband did. Then the Holy Spirit brings me back to reality and reminds us why our Lord – God-made man had to come and die that horrible death on the cross of Calvary for what I did wrong – for my disobedience! Then He also reminds me of the fact of how great our country would be if we had men that obey God and lead their family’s for His honor and glory and women that obeyed them as God desires! Let’s ponder also on the fact that we ladies of the household could help our husband’s by praying for them; and representing our husband in the household, while he is away, not ruling the roost as we wanted to while he was gone! You see I was brought up in an unsaved household with a mother that loved God and tried to teach us of Him and have us in His church on Sundays – but didn’t know what the Word of God said for they weren’t suppose to read it only the priest! Then when I married our household became another unsaved household with people that believed in God but didn’t attend God’s house on Sunday. It remained that way for eight years then the mother accepted Christ as her Saviour; nine years later the father did the same! Must say with God in the center of the house – it soon became a home! It took time to get it in the orderly manner that our Heavenly Father desired(and we are not perfect yet). God’s orderly manner is the husband is the head of the home – God’s representative! Remember this is a woman who wasn’t going to let a man treat her like her father did her mother! Yet, the more I read and learned what the Word of God said the more I realized I needed to be my husband’s “helpmeet” indeed – not his thorn in the flesh! Must say there are still a lot of pot holes in my life (after 60 years) but we are getting there. I remember when I realized that our home was a nice place to be when my husband is following God’s direction! Occasionally there are times when I noticed he might be taking the wrong turn and would ask the question where are we going? Then he would answer – “I’m head of the household – is that right?” “Then I said “Yes, but if I see you headed over the cliff – I have to tell you – because - guess what the children and I will be right behind you going over the cliff.” These were very few times – The blessings are worth working toward God’s home while still here on Earth!
