The fear of God Fear of the lord. Knowledge. Wisdom. Righteousness. This seems to be the progression in the bible. Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; (Psalm 34:11, 18, 19 NIV) My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding— indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path. (Proverbs 2:1-6, 9 NIV) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. (Proverbs 9:10, 11 NIV)
