The fear of the revolutionary zeal of AISA activists, their - TopicsExpress

The fear of the revolutionary zeal of AISA activists, their commitment towards a gender just, socially inclusive and an equal society and their determined efforts to ensure equitable access to affordable quality education, appears to have gripped the ruling establishment. It may be noted that this is the year in which struggles of AISA in JNU and DU saw rollbacks of neo-liberal assaults on education like FYUP and de-linking, and establishment and recognition of an Open access model of Press that is founded on principles that reject the idea of exclusive monoply over knowledge resources by a select few. Hence, it is understandable why those in power fear AISA. No wonder in the week when elections will be held in both DU and JNU, two campuses where AISA has an overwhelming support among students, suddenly chargesheets have been filed against the two main campaign mobilizers of DU and JNU, Com. Anmol and com. Om Prasad, along with Com. Kavita Krishnan and Com. Aslam Khan (RYA). We had seen earlier in this month how reporters of papers like the Hindu conveyed that the Delhi Police itself had been telling them what to report about AISA and how the quotes attributed to AISA had infact been suggested by the Police itself. Perhaps the pro AISA mood in DU and the continued student support for AISA that was seen during the mashaal juloos in JNU gave the ruling establishment a clear indication that in the days to come the students movements are only going to get strengthened with a renewed energy.... We want to assure one and all that none of these intimidation tactics of the government and the police will ever dissuade us from carrying forward our struggles. It is not ironical that a government that came to power assuring a curb on gender violence, while having failed to do anything on that front, has instead chosen to come down on activists of the 16 December movement. We are well aware how deep rooted BJPs ideology is in patriarchal, misogynist and Brahmanical ideas. It is not ironical that it is under a BJP led government that the delhi police has decided to frame charges on activists who themselves were brutalized by the lathis and water canons of the police while protesting outside the residence of a congress CM. BJP is well aware that those who never let the misrule of UPA get away without registering their protest and resistance, will not stop their resistance against the misrule of NDA either, since for those of us in AISA, our role is clear- if Oppression is your privilege, protest is our right thehindu/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-newdelhi/charge-sheet-in-dec-16-protests-case-politically-motivated/article6396006.ece
