The final Saturday’s racing before Christmas was another busy day for the team. Our opening runner of the day, The Really Wild Bunch’s Rascal, put in a decent follow-up to his Southwell victory when fourth in the opening novices’ handicap hurdle at Ascot, and later on the card Bellenos, owned by Mr & Mrs John Cotton, ran another good race to finish third in the two-mile handicap chase. It was then the turn of Shelford in the feature race of the day, the Ladbroke. He ran with great credit for owner Carl Hodgson to finish a close-up fourth in one of the most competitive handicap hurdles of the season. Up at Haydock, Toby Lerone was making a quick reappearance after his Lingfield win the previous Saturday, and under another positive ride from David England took the runner-up spot in the Tommy Whittle handicap chase. Sunday saw the lorry head east to Norfolk, with four runners at Fakenham. Bon Chic, owned by the Coral Champions Club, was making her British debut after winning a Punchestown bumper in October, and a solid performance saw her finish third beaten only two lengths. My Oh Mount Brown was unlucky when falling heavily at the first, but this morning is absolutely fine after giving us all a scare! Another making her debut for the team, the Sue Welch-owned Shady Lane, was always prominent and ran out a five-length winner of the two-mile handicap hurdle. Our last runners before Christmas headed for Bangor-on-Dee on Monday, where it was great to see Mister Grez back to winning ways under Bridget Andrews for owners Gilman’s Point Racing Syndicate.
