The final film we saw at the East Silver Market at Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival was Deborah Stratmans HACKED CIRCUIT. One long tracking shot that leads you down many possible narrative routes until we arrive at the source of the music. Flitting between the hazy areas of diegetic and non-diegetic sound we stumble upon two foley artist working on the tracks for The Conversation. A meta-moment occurs when the sound man of the film were viewing is exposed on camera recording the foley artist, and actually brings you further in to the film. Nuances of the foreboding soundtrack and dialogue slip into the audiences perception of what theyre watching until were back to our original starting place. An ode to sound, it signs off with dedicated the film for Walter Murch and Ed Snowden, with apologies, gratitude and admiration.
