The final piece of this weekends concert will be Mendelssohns - TopicsExpress

The final piece of this weekends concert will be Mendelssohns Symphony No. 3 which is better known as the Scottish Symphony. The work was born when the composer visited Edinburgh and the Palace of Holyrood where Mary, Queen of Scots’ secretary (and alleged lover) was murdered by a group of conspirators, including her husband. The music Mendelssohn wrote at this location serves as the introduction to the solemn first movement. After a playful scherzo and a heart-wrenching slow movement, a triumphant finale thunders in with a militaristic theme. Be sure not to miss out on this great concert that begins on Friday at 8 pm at DeVos Performance Hall.
