The final tally was from yesterdays Kings BeachCleanUp..... 1404 pieces of marine debris (15.4kg)!!!! The main offenders being Cigarette Butts, Straws, Balloons, Plastic cutlery, plates, wrapping and bags. Thanx to 15 excellent Surfrider volunteers who spent 2hrs on the crowded beach. It never ceases to amaze me that a beach looking clean reveals an absolute shipload of rubbish and the amount of single use plastic waste. This info is databased to trace the source and the scale of the problem, and is used locally as general reference to see if the pollution is improving or worsening. Next Surfrider BCU will be Feb 15 or 16 at Alex or Peregian. Thoughts?...... Keep an eye & ear out also for the next DoubleIsland Point clean up.... we have 4X4 and camping permits for the surfrider crew! Refuse Reduce Reuse Recycle RISE ABOVE PLASTICS Craig
