The final totals are in and we won! I am so honored to have been your candidate and I am filled with gratitude for all the hard work that went into winning this contest. Although we did not have the big money, big names and big head start in campaigning, we won with our message of experience, courage and commitment to a better Travis County for all. Because of the work of neighborhood organizers, volunteers, and dedicated staff, we won the Democratic nomination for Travis County Judge and came a step closer to breaking the glass ceiling in Travis County. Through this competitive primary, I have learned a tremendous amount from Andy Brown, a talented and committed Democrat. I congratulate him on running a formidable campaign. I wish him personal and professional success and I look forward to working with him to make Travis County a green, just and prosperous home for generations of Central Texans. I have many people to thank. First and foremost, I thank my husband Kurt and my children Hank and Nadine. Having grown up with political parents, I know what it is like to live with a loved one who is there but not “totally there” during campaigns. I love them beyond measure and owe them so much more for their patience and support during the past ten months. I thank Senator Gonzalo Barrientos and Commissioner Richard Moya for their advice and strong support during this campaign. I am honored to stand on the shoulders of their barrier-breaking accomplishments in service of all Travis County residents. I thank our amazing volunteers and dedicated staff who made the office hum, made countless phone calls and knocked on doors in every kind of weather. I thank each person who donated their time and money to our campaign, sent personal emails and hosted me in your home to talk to your neighbors. Through your efforts we won this campaign one conversion at a time, house-to-house and neighbor-to-neighbor. I owe a special thanks to my general consultant Genevieve Can Cleve, my field director Caitlin Shea, my communications consultant Jeff Crosby, my fundraising consultant Susan Harry, and my campaign manager Nick Hudson. I also owe a special thanks to Katherine Haenschen who generously offered her time and talent as a super-volunteer. I am deeply honored to be your public servant. This victory is not for me. This victory is for all those who believe county government can deliver on the promise of a green, just and prosperous Central Texas for this generation and generations to come. Now, lets go win in November together! Sincerely, Sarah Eckhardt
