“The financial inefficiency of the state’s educational system - TopicsExpress

“The financial inefficiency of the state’s educational system is indisputable. There are 57 intermediate school districts and 862 public (traditional and charter) school systems serving about 1.5 million students. The latest figures show 49 are dealing with deficit spending problems.” A Detroit News editorial about House Bill 4797, which looks to be on the fast track to be passed before the Legislature breaks for summer vacation. This bill would expedite the dissolution of insolvent school districts. Local school districts are still woefully underfunded and the best solution is to adequately fund our children’s classrooms. But if the Legislature refuses to address the underlining problem, then what choices are our local schools left with? Apparently the Legislature and Governor believe dissolution and consolidation are the new answer. The Detroit News: bit.ly/16JNjQ2
