The fire danger for the South West will peak above EXTREME at around 1pm and is expected to remain for up to three hours, with the Forest Fire Danger Index of 100+ (highest rating) and Grass Fire Danger Index >150 (highest) being reached. The peak danger area stretches from the Mallee and the Wimmera, through much of the South West to the Otways and the coast. Northerly winds averaging around 60 km/h with damaging peak gusts of 90 km/h, will persist ahead of a low pressure trough that will move into south west Victoria during the early afternoon, reaching central districts late afternoon. Isolated dry thunderstorms are expected to develop near the change during the afternoon. Monitor emergency.vic.gov.au, but be sure to use more than one source and dont rely on a warning to act.
