The first 2 pics is the Mydas Fly (Mydas Clavatus) it is about 1 1/2 inches long, it looks like a wasp but its a fly and harmless. The last 2 pics are of a Robber fly, Mydass 1st cousin, is one you dont want to mess with though. Also called the Assassin fly up to 2inches in length It catches its prey in flight, for it is a very fast flyer. They catch and eat wasps, bees dragon flies and other insects larger than themselves . They grab the prey with there spikey legs and with there needle like mouth parts they inject nerve toxins that paralyze and liquefies there tissue, then they drink there prey like a spider does. The good thing is they swoop down and take Deer flies and Horse flies. They can bite a human but usually only if you trap them or they are confused, and if they bite you, it is very painful and will probably do a little damage to your tissue with there strong toxin, scary hey. They have been know to take Hummingbirds also. The 1st pic of the Robber fly is in my van , it road from West Indiana to Oxford Ohio with us, and wouldnt get out of the van, I tried to shoo it out but with its blinding speed, it was way to fast for me, thank God.
