The first Deaf Interpreter National Conference is slated to take place June 20-24, 2015 in Minnesota. Conference coordination committees are still in the planning stages and have limited information ready to advertise. The following is *preliminary* information provided by Jimmy Beldon to Professional Interpreting Enterprise (PIE), Milwaukee, WI. PIE is a Platinum Sponsor of this innovative much needed training opportunity. 《《 Goal: 》》 The 2015 Deaf Interpreter (DI) Conference will provide a venue to showcase and implement much of the work of the NCIEC Deaf Interpreter Initiative. It will be an opportunity for pre-certified and certified deaf interpreters to learn about the role and function of deaf interpreters as well as gain better understanding to the application of deaf interpreters in specialized fields. The DI conference will employ best practice (as identified by NCIEC initiatives) in interpreting and ethical decision-making. The Certified Deaf Interpreters attending will receive further in-depth training on the application of their work in specialized settings. The DI conference will facilitate the training of newer DIs and those with experience through the use of a two-track approach for those interpreters who are pre-certified and certified deaf interpreters. The DI conference will also offer networking and de-brief opportunities for all conference participants. The specific workshop objectives will be developed after selection of presenters and in collaboration with the conference organizers. Most of the workshop objectives will come from NCIEC training modules such as Deaf Interpreter, Legal Interpreter, and Healthcare Interpreter. The intention of having the DI conference in Minnesota is to benefit from likely DI candidate and current DIs who might plan to attend the ASLTA national conference participants to participate by coming in earlier. The ASLTA national conference tends draw majority deaf participants and would be an ideal place to start the training in deaf interpreting field.
