The first Folk Show of the new year this coming Sunday features a lot of music that either arrived just before Christmas or - in the case of Henry Priestmans brilliant album - got buried on my desk under a stack of fRoots magazines back in the summer If you share this then the brand new cherubic 2015 fairy will touch your jibbooms with the St Elmos Fire of good fortune and you will find a Philosophers Stone in your sock which will enable you to turn base metal into gold and UKIP canvassers into slugs. Failure to do so will mean that 2015 will be even worse than 2014 and worse still than 2013 Tickling your timpanum this Sunday will be .... Caladh Nua - young Irish band with a terrific second album Hanz Araki - Japanese American Shakuhachi player with a song about a highwayman Skippers Alley - Dublin band with a great set of tunes Aodán Coyne - grandson of Liverpools own Eamonn Coyne with a great version of a ewan MacColl song Joe Solo - brilliant song from his new album - features Rebekah Findlay The Corndodgers - Nottingham based roots band with a great song on the banksters Grace Griffiths - great US singer Jody Kruskal - Old Timey Concertina - a must for nerdy anoraks like me Gerry Cairns - ex The Ludlows - understated but terrific album Hannah Sanders - 2 tracks from her amazingly brilliant new CD Jim Malcolm - ex Old Blind Dogs - good stuff Wookalily - all girl Americana band with a song about banjos Angelene Carberry - a Manchester lass and probaby one of the finest banjo players in the Cosmos Jed Grimes and the Deserving Poor - live at the acoustic room North Shields - nuff sed Henry Priestman - if he never writes another song for the rest of his life this IMHO places him right up there in the Pantheon. All done and dusted with the minimum of almost correct gibber - coming free to you over the airwaves in Canada and Kerry and as ever on the web at mikehardingfolkshow
