Carved in the grey stone walls, fragments of the ancient prayers and symbols passed in a blur: Havah ilz avah Haizzem … The holy star of Lux Lucis … the light of the Ten … Temple of the Gods … Lord Oderigo’s Holy Book … The beacon of the holy city … peace and surrender to the Ten … the unbroken line of kings … great is Lord Galleazzo … There *was* a holy ambience here, even in the walls, which only sparked more rage and confusion—a self-strangling tension in body and mind. The Exalted rarely left the minaret for the holy palace, forcing her to return to the scene … her mother bleeding to death in the birthing pool … Caio’s newborn cries echoing in the high chamber … Lord Danato’s first appearance in her life.
