The first Model A Ford engine, stamped “A1” by Henry Ford - TopicsExpress

The first Model A Ford engine, stamped “A1” by Henry Ford himself on October 20, 1927 was put in a Tudor Sedan that Ford personally drove and tested before giving final approval to begin production of the car. Today, that very Model A is on display at the Model A Ford Museum on the Gilmore Car Museum’s Historic Campus. At Henry Ford’s request the “A1” automobile was presented to his friend and fellow innovator, Thomas Edison. The car was originally a Tudor Sedan, yet it is said that Edison decided he would rather have an open car, so at Ford’s request the body was replaced with the 1928 Phaeton body seen here. After Edison died, his widow returned the car to Ford where it was used for experiments and further adaptations until it was given to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, who has graciously loaned the vehicle to GCM. #ThisDayInHistory #MuseumMonday
