The first Ride the North was run purely as a fundraising event - TopicsExpress

The first Ride the North was run purely as a fundraising event …37 paid the fee with an obligation to raise a minimum of £500 for UCAN. The rules changed for the second event after we thought we could get 100 people rather than 30-40 and if we persuaded half to fundraise, then the net benefit might be bigger. Having removed the fundraising obligation, the 2012 event actually raised a little less than the year previous year, but I felt if we retained a strong relationship to a charity partner, it might be one step backwards to make a bigger one forwards. It’s going to be a week or two before we make an estimate about the money raised this year, but I think it’s going to more than the previous two RTN events combined. Thank you to Maggie’s Centres maggiescentres.org/ and their volunteers for being part of the event and to all those who have contributed to their time, energy and money to such a great cause.
