The first amendment reads, Congress shall make no law respecting - TopicsExpress

The first amendment reads, Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for the redress of a grievance. It does NOT in any sentence, or phrase give the government to power to control religion. In fact, the words, Congress shall make NO LAWS ...PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF, states that the Government CANNOT control religion! There is NO restriction placed upon religion! The ONLY ones that the prohibition in the first amendment applies to is the CONGRESS, not Churches, not schools, not states, nor cities, towns nor private organizations. The Supreme Court in 1962 ruled basically that the First Amendment meant the Opposite of what it stated! Why is Pennsylvania called The Quaker State? Because it had a State Religion, The Society of Friends , or the Quakers. This Amendment did not apply to the states, BECAUSE THE STATES HAD STATE RELIGIONS, and they had the right to establish such! Why is it that the GOVERNMENT needs not to obey its own laws???
