The first banjo I bought cost $50, and I used it to play in a high school project called Chicks with Dixieland. Later in life I joined up with my roommate Andrew and his friend Ken who were starting a Jug Band, which led me to buy a banjo costing $105. As the years went on I amassed and cycled through three more banjos costing $70, $100, and $125. That last one Ive dropped and broken in half twice, gluing it back together to returned playability both times, (with thanks to Trevor). The last weekend of Fest this year, I dropped it again, breaking it in half for a third time (different breakage points every time btw.) As fate would have it, that same week I was mailed a 25% off coupon from Musicians Friend, which I put on my desk and mulled over for a few weeks, pondering its imminent expiry date. Considering that the banjo instrument is now, through no fault of my own, my primary instrument in all three of the bands I regularly play in Como Ave. Jug Band, Four Pints Shy, and Brian Just Band), I hence decided to purchase a beautiful $250 Washburn B9 banjo from Musicians Friend dot com. It arrived today; it plays like a wet dream; it even has strap-pins! Though, Ill most likely still have to play sitting down in order to hide what it gives me as Im playing it. Christmas has come early for the Rickster.
