The first completed and hard bounded thesis of final year projects - TopicsExpress

The first completed and hard bounded thesis of final year projects of this semester to be turned in. Congratulations to Suhir Sulaiman. Must be quite a relief for final year students once the task is finally completed. Congratulations to those who gave their best shot. Like ive always said it is a contribution to knowledge no matter how small it may be. In this case, Suhir Sulaiman conducted a study on the aggressiveness of the long tailed macaque Macacca fascicularis centred around the alpha male and mothers with infants. The colony she had worked on resides in a fragmented forest surrounded by human habitation and semi urban area. Her study will help in the understanding of behaviour of macaques in a colony isolated by encroaching urbanisation. One important observation made was that the alpha male will go out of the way in locating a member who went missing, signifying the importance of keeping the group intact and an assertion of leadership and responsibility. I just came from a relatives house in Air Itam, Johor who have experienced increasing attack by monkeys on crops. From the description, this time it came from the stump tailed macaque Macacca nemestrina. The big one, presumably the alpha male, uproot and pull out the cassava roots (ubi kayu). Any final year student interested can sign up for next coming semester. We can test the effectiveness of a range of homemade repellent material to drive away the macaques (one that has been tested by another student, Syukran Ardani in Perak on the long tailed macaque). It will make a good comparison. Congratulations again to all who successfully turned in their thesis.
