The first-ever Transylvanian Book Festival organised by the ever - TopicsExpress

The first-ever Transylvanian Book Festival organised by the ever able Lucy Abel Smith was a stunning success and the spirit of Paddy Leigh Fermor was very much in evidence. Never have I attended a festival where the complexities of history were presently so cogently and the calibre of speakers so high: Artemis Cooper, Jessica Douglas-Home (president of mihaiemeinescutrust.org), Roy Foster (on Bram Stoker), Baronessa Beatrice Rezzori Monti della Corte (widow of Gregor von Rezzori), Tony Scotland, Dutch novelist Jaap Scholten, Nick Hunt (who travelled in the footsteps of PLF) and Elisabeth Salnikoff, granddaughter of Miklos Banffy. Unusual too to be in the company of a Russian prince, an English duke and Hungarian countesses. And such a beautiful landscape.
