The first matches of the 2013 Division I women’s volleyball season created quite a stir in the rankings. With Nebraska falling to unranked Auburn and Hawaii taking down the preseason No. 1 Texas, opening weekend set the standard for a season where a variety of teams have a chance to make a run at the national title, or at least make a solid round of 16 appearance. However, the true test of early-season dominance will be at this weekend’s Nike Big Four Classic, where Texas, Florida, Stanford, and Penn State will meet in the reigning champs’ arena to hash it out. Most likely, whoever performs the best at that event will earn next week’s No. 1 spot.
