The first of a series of forums to collect the views of employers, young people and training providers on apprenticeships and youth training by Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry To coincide with the series of events, the Department for Employment and Learning has launched a call for submissions; the call will be open until the 2 October 2013. Information on this can be found at the link below Speaking from Belfast Metropolitan College, e3 campus, the Minister said: “The views expressed today will feed into the major review of apprenticeship and youth training which I announced in February this year. Apprenticeships and youth training are integral to meeting the needs of local businesses. We must invest in the right skills for our economy.” The Minister continued: “The call for submissions will provide employers, training providers, current, past and potential apprentices with an opportunity to put forward their perspectives on this important subject. I want to ensure that our future apprenticeship offering is at the right level to meet the needs of businesses for a highly skilled workforce; provides opportunities for young people to progress to the very top, in their chosen career; and secures a sufficient supply of apprentices, especially in the key sectors of the economy. “My vision for this review is to build on and enhance our existing apprenticeship and youth training provision, to make Northern Ireland apprenticeships the gold standard, which other places aspire to. “I would like to hear from as varied and as diverse a range of stakeholders as possible and I would encourage employers, young people and providers to take the time to visit delni.gov.uk/apprenticeshipreview and record their opinions.” The review will report its findings in the autumn of 2013. A separate call for submissions on the review of youth training will issue in the coming weeks.
