The first part of Martin Scorseses Raging Bull has Robert De Niro - TopicsExpress

The first part of Martin Scorseses Raging Bull has Robert De Niro play a tough and mean real life boxer Jake La Motta. Niro underwent a tough training schedule at the end of which Jake is recorded as saying that Niro was as good as some of the best boxers in the world. In the latter half of his life and way past his prime, Jake turned into a fat and obnoxious wife abuser. To look the part, Niro asked for a three month break in principal shooting where he wolfed on an unhealthy beef diet. Scorseses pleas that they could make Robert De Niro look fat with prosthetics fell on deaf ears and Niro spent the next three months eating tonnes of beef and sleeping throughout the day. That is why when you see the film and see Niro sleeping on the sofa with the paunch rolling over his stomach breathing heavy, it all seems so real. One of the best boxing films ever with the lead actor giving his all to look and play the part and a director who shot the boxing matches so that the audience feels they are in the middle of the action makes Raging Bull a cult classic. If you ever wondered why our films suck, it is because our benchmarks are so low. If they needed to make The Fighter work, they needed to, at the least, match up to Raging Bull. That is the only way to make better films ... Set quality benchmarks with the best films in the world and not necessarily the last 100 crore blockbuster. The repercussions of that Scorsese effort can be felt in the more recent The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale playing his drug addict brother. Great films should be judged solely on how they help take future films and filmmakers to the next level ... and that is exactly what Interstellar owes 2001 : A space Odyssey and Django Unchained owes The Good, the Bad and the Ugly :) https://youtube/watch?v=YiVOwxsa4OM
