The first round of all-star voting results were released Tuesday, where Maui native and Twins Catcher Kurt Suzuki ranks fifth among American league back-stops with 187,766 votes. That puts him well behind the position leader, former Hawaii Winter Baseball standout Matt Wieters of Baltimore who had 540,258 votes. Through 41 games this season, his first in Minnesota, Suzuki is batting .299 with 10 doubles, 2 home runs, 27 RBI, with 14 walks to just 12 strikeouts. In Suzuki’s 8 year MLB career he has never been named an All-Star, and according to baseball-reference fellow Valley-Isle native Shane Victorino (2009 & 2011) is the only Hawaii born position player to be named to an All-Star Game.
