The first round of the 2013 Honda 150 European Championship took place today in soaring temperatures at the Lausitzring, Germany round of the FIM Motocross World Championship. Denmarks Michael Joergensen took the hole-shot but it was pole setter Mitchell Lewis from England who claimed the lead half way into the first lap. Joergensen was then passed by Italian Filippo Grigoletto who looked to be closing on Lewis after setting the fastest lap of the race. However a mistake leading into the wave section slowed him and allowed countryman Alberto Forato to take 2nd on the track. Forato pushed hard to catch Lewis but the young Englishman responded, pulling a gap to the Italian which he maintained, taking the race win by 11 seconds. Grigoletto held off a late charge from Joergensen to claim the final podium position whilst Ethan Winchester claimed 5th after a tough battle with Sweden’s Erik Englund, an impressive ride from the young English rider as he had been injured in training. Luca Pepe Meger from Germany improved on his qualifying result with 7th ahead of Denmarks Lucas Ankjaer and female rider Shana Van Der List from the Netherlands. Bennet Schaefer from Germany completed the top 10 at his home Grand Prix. The championship now heads to Bastogne in Belgium in two weeks before the season finale at Matterly Basin in the United Kingdom
