The first time I almost met Robin Williams was an almost simply because he was cool. He dropped into a club I was headlining to do a guest set. It was near the end of my set, just before the checks went out, if I recall. When Robin found out how late in the show it was, he insisted that he NOT do a set because it would be too disruptive and the staff would have to work later than planned. The time I actually got to meet him we had both dropped into a club to do guest sets and I went up to talk to him and thank him for the above-mentioned incident (this was about a year and a half later). He was so quiet I could barely hear him. One of the first things he asked was how my career was going. I told him Id been on the road for years and I just kept working hard. He said, Thats all we can do. Sadly, those were my only experiences with him but he was classy and kind both times and thats always what I think of first whenever anyone has mentioned him in the years since. I will pray that he has now found peace.
