The first time I attended the Floating Lantern Ceremony in Lahaina, I was with my late father, aka Poppa Bear, and my husband, Bruce... about 25 years ago? The second time I attended the Floating Lantern Ceremony in Lahaina, was last night with my husband, Bruce, and with a Lantern for my mother, Doris. I never would have guessed all those many years ago that my mother would move to Maui and become a Buddhist and join the Jodo Mission... and that Rev. John Hara would be her minister and provide for me a Floating Lantern for her to float upon the very waters where her ashes are scattered and where she now rests in peace. May her soul rest easy in the Pure Land.
