The first time I came to Austin, a little over ten years ago, I had the idea that I was in TEXAS - you know, the land of George W and arch conservatism. Well, I was delighted to find out that, in Texas, all the weirdos, hippies, poets, pickers, and artists have all been rounded up and placed in Austin, right outside the state Capitol where they can keep an eye on em… In other words, I LOVE Austin, TX. I saw JOE today at the Paramount Theater. It is a wonderful film by my friend, David Gordon Green, and it is a great reminder that Nicolas Cage still has the capacity to turn in a subtle, understated, and moving performance. Afterward, I walked over to Book People, a great local bookstore, and bought Donna Tartts GOLDFINCH and Elmore Leonards RAYLAN (I cant believe I havent read that one yet). Then I puttered around Waterloo Records. Then I walked down 6th street and listened in to numerous clubs where bands were cranking out their SXSW best. Austin is awesome. If the show Im doing, AMERICAN CRIME, gets picked up to series, Ill have to move here for seven months or so. While I will not enjoy the constant travel back and forth to Home and my Girls, there are many worse places to be than Austin… in fact, there are few places Id rather be than in Austin.
