The first time I played the banjo on a festival stage was 1982, at the Old Oak Folk Festival. Red Rector invited myself and the New Left to join him for the final part of his set. Red also invited Ed Snodderly onstage to play dobro. The mandolin player from this video had a new band by then, and they headlined. It was Bela Flecks first tour with New Grass Revival, and I hung out with him in Moes backstage bus. I was 23, I think Bela was 24. Red had sold Bela a mandolin, and introduced us. Thank you Red Rector, Reenie Patrick and Mary Beth Aungier. Yall messed me up for good! Heres a great version of a great song...-john
