The first time I set foot at La Placita was when I was 12 yrs. old, organizing a group of junior high students to attend Raza rallies before the walkout occurred...in fact a police officer wanted to arest me for protesting. Rosa Mata was kind enough to defend me and the officer let me go. I also set foot there when I was elected El Diez y Seis Queen representing El Miguel Hidalgo & Cinco de Mayo Queen...lol! Others organizing with me were Bonney Marquez, State Representative Roberto Alonzo, David Mata, and others...that was when one of our rallies happened with speakers like Jose Angel Gutierrez, Luz Gutierrez, Jose O. Mata, Elena Diaz, Severita Lara, Sra. Virgina Muzquiz, Mario Trevino, and many others. The voices echoed the streets and homes of the Crystal City citizens. LOS GRITOS DE NUESTRA RAZA! Many memories rest there. Also remember State Representative Roberto Alonzo & Sylvana Avila Alonzo were married there. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A MONUMENT THERE AS A LAND MARK TO THE HISTORICAL EVENTS! SI SE PUEDE!
