The flooding that devastated southern Alberta seemingly caught everyone off guard, both with its size and ferocity. It started June 20 with flooding in Canmore but soon affected other parts of southern Alberta, including the biggest city in the province. Before long, wide swaths of Calgary were evacuated and some 75,000 people displaced.
